Tips to get qualified
CPA Australia provides graduates with a major sequence in accounting the opportunity to join CPA Australia, study the CPA Program, and become a CPA.
If these opportunities appeal to you, why not consider enrolling in a business degree with an accounting major after you finish your VET qualification?
Most higher education providers will offer substantial credit towards a degree for your Vocational Education and Training (VET) studies — and you’ll be on your way towards becoming a CPA.
Pathway to becoming a CPA

- You must have finished your degree and you completed the subjects that CPA Australia has prescribed (usually, but not always, included in the degree).
- You must join CPA Australia as an Associate member. This gives you some of the benefits of membership and lets you enrol in the CPA Program.
- Complete the CPA Program. From 2004, this will mean doing six subjects at post graduate level. Most study will be done by distance learning, but there will be some workshops available.
- You must have completed three years of 'mentored' work experience. This will give you an excellent start to a business career as a CPA with extensive experience, and will help you develop necessary work skills and appropriate technical expertise. It will get your career off to a flying start.
