Tertiary institutions around the world ranked
Universities from the US and UK have dominated the top ten world ranking tertiary institutions, as featured in The Times higher education supplement.
First place was filled by Harvard University, followed by Cambridge, Oxford, Yale and Imperial College London.
A large number of universities in Asia also received high acclaim this year, with the Universities of Hong Kong, Kyoto, Tokyo and the National Universities of Singapore and Peking all appearing in the top 50.
Australian National University was the highest-placed Australian university at 16, followed by the University of Melbourne at 27, the University of Sydney at 31, the University of Queensland at 33, Monash University at 43 and University New South Wales at 44.
Rankings were based on peer review (5101 academics), recruiter review (1482 international companies), international faculty ratio, international students ratio, student faculty ratio and citations per faculty.
