Mentor Program
The three year Mentor Program provides a framework for developing and demonstrating practical workplace skills at a professional level, in the areas of accounting and/or finance.
The program is designed to align with the CPA Program studies and complement an Associate members work in a professional accounting or finance role.
The Mentor Program classifies professional accounting work into nine areas:
- academia
- auditing / assurance
- financial accounting
- financial planning
- information technology
- insolvency and reconstruction
- management accounting
- taxation
- treasury / financial risk management
These areas of work are the foundation of the Mentor Program and specify the skill sets required.
Format of the Mentor Program
- Select the areas of work which are most applicable to your work role. There are three options for the areas of work requirements, but you’ll most likely choose two or more areas of work.
- You will need to demonstrate specific skill sets within your chosen areas of work. You will find a table at the beginning of each area of work which lists the number of skills required.
- You will then collect documentation that demonstrates these skills and their application in the workplace. All this will be recorded in your logbook which will be signed by your mentor.
- You’ll need to communicate with your mentor a minimum of 10 hours per year.
- To complete the Mentor Program, you need to submit a Mentor Program testimonial form, signed by your mentor, which confirms you have met the requirements. Submit your testimonial/s when you are ready to advance to CPA status.
Mentored practical work experience is a requirement of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). IFAC is the governing body for all prestigious accounting associations.
